Ceroc Beginners Top Tips
- Remember always use a loose grip and definitely no thumbs.
- Try and keep your hands at waist level especially during double handed moves like the Armjive and the Octopus.
- Try and keep your elbows tucked in during moves, it looks more stylish.
- You get hot and sweaty when dancing so it's a good idea to bring a towel or a change of top.
- Don't be shy - go and ask the Teachers and Taxi Dancers for advice if you need to, that is what they are there for.
- Avoid eating garlic or smelly food before a dance, unless you can hold your breath for a long time : )
- Men... Learn a set of 2 or 3 anchor moves like the Armjive, Octopus and First Move, that you can always revert back to, or use consistently if your mind goes blank.
- Women... you must ask men to dance. Ask a good dancer to dance, saying that you are a beginner and would they have one dance with you. Ask all the men in the room and you will have danced all night.
- Don't be shy asking people to dance, that is why they are all there and women do the asking as much as the men.
- Go to Beginner's Cerocshops. They are great for refining your basic moves and great for making new friends.
- Men... this is a male led dance, try to be a strong but gentle lead.
- Women... don't be floppy, there must be a certain amount of resistance between dancers to make the dance flow and to help you spin.
- Don't be judgemental, Modern Jive is a dance you can't get wrong,
- If you make a mistake don't stop, keep moving, spin, offer your hand and smile.
- Have fun, smile a lot, look at and acknowledge your partner and most of all ENJOY YOURSELF!
