Ceroc Modern Jive is the biggest dance club in the world and we teach adult classes in more towns, cities and countries each year. It is an opportunity for people to make new friends, meet new people, find a partner, keep in shape, lose weight, increase fitness, and learn to dance all in one. It's a cheap night out, a safe night out, but success is wholly reliant on following Ceroc Commandments.

This social dance etiquette is expected from all of our members in all of our in dance venues.

1. Never turn down a dance - Ceroc Modern Jive is a social partner dance where you can meet new people and make new friends. This relies on everybody accepting dances when they are asked. You can learn to jive in the lesson, but when freestyle starts, it's time to work the room! It doesn't matter who dances Beginner dance moves and who dances Advanced dance moves, it is all about having fun, meeting new friends and mixing with other people. If you come to Ceroc Modern Jive only to dance with the better dancers, you will get a reputation as a dance snob, and this will do nothing for your popularity. Remember, we were all Beginner dancers once, and it was partner dancing with the more able dancers that helped us to develop. If you are an advanced jive dancer, then pass on some of your love to the newer members!

2. Be a hygienic dancer - Ceroc Modern Jive is a form of dance exercise. It is great to keep fit, stay in shape, tone your muscles and even lose weight. But like any aerobic exercise, you will get a good dance workout and sweat! Nobody wants to dance with someone who is smelly or unclean. Bring a change of clothes, a towel to wipe your head and wear lots of deodorant.

3. Take a deep breath (mint!) - In any partner dance, you will learn dance moves in the lesson and then you will freestyle them with a range of people in the room. You will be up close with your partner, you will meet new people and you want to make a good impression. Avoid garlic and strong smelling foods for dinner, brush your teeth, mouthwash and bring some gum or breath mints with you.

4. Look around - West Coast Swing dancers dance on the slot, Swing/ Jive/ Rock and Roll dancers dance in a circle, Tango dancers travel around the room, Lindy Hop dancers perform big jumps, Salsa dancers style their arms to the side, Ballroom and Latin dancers travel elaborate footwork patterns across the space. Ceroc Modern jive dancers can pretty much do all of the above! Especially on a busy dance floor, find a dance partner, but then look after your dance partner. Look around you, make sure you have space, and whether you are a Beginner dancer, performing Intermediate dance steps or displaying more Advanced dance moves and routines, make sure you are respectful towards other dancers. Ceroc Modern Jive is a safe night out - we don't want injuries.

5. Love the DJ! - Being a Ceroc Modern Jive DJ is one of the hardest jobs. Because you can dance Ceroc Modern Jive to Pop music, Dance music, Swing Music. Rock and Roll music, Blues Music, Soul Music, Funk Music, Salsa Music or other Latin Music, the DJ has a massive range of tracks to pick from. You will like some, but you may not like some! Bear in mind, the other dancers in the room may have different tastes to your own. If the DJ plays a few tracks that are not to your taste, it doesn’t make them a bad DJ. It just means they are playing a range of genres to appease a wide range of dancers.

Ceroc Modern Jive can be enjoyed at over 200 venues across the world.
