Ceroc Modern Jive classes are aimed at the brand new Beginner dancer who has never set foot on the dance floor before. They can learn to jive in a single 40 minute class, whether they come alone or with a dance partner. Once they have accumulated 6 lessons, they are ready to learn Intermediate dance moves. These dance steps are slightly more challenging and the dance routines are slightly longer. Beginner dancers are also introduced to new concepts such as basic footwork patterns, more sophisticated timing patterns and stylistic influences from Ballroom, Latin, Salsa, West Coast Swing, Rock and Roll, Lindy Hop, Blues and Tango.

Despite the more complex move content, it is always considered that some dancers have only been learning to jive for 6 weeks. Therefore the dance moves and dance routines are still delivered in an easy to learn manner, and the first 2 moves in the routine are labelled 'transition moves' - essentially moves for those who have just moved up from the Beginner lesson.

The structure to a Ceroc Modern Jive Intermediate lesson is as follows.

A simple move
A Classic Move (There are 24 Classic Moves, each a fundamental technique in Modern Jive)
An Intermediate level move (aimed at those who have been dancing for longer)
An optional spotlight move (Advanced Modern Jive move for the most confident dancers)

New Intermediate dancers are encouraged to focus on the first 2 moves in the routine. If they achieve these, then they are doing extremely well. Seasoned Intermediate dancers are encouraged to focus their attentions on the third and/or fourth move in the routine. At Intermediate Level, unlike Beginner level, there is no expectation to remember the whole routine. Instead, dancers are encouraged to focus on one, at best 2, dance moves in the sequence depending on their ability level.

Ceroc Modern Jive is the biggest dance club in the world, attracting brand newbies to the Beginner dance classes, all the way up to advanced dancers and competition winners in the Intermediate classes. Lessons are catered for a wide variety of ability levels and teachers ensure that everything taught is both freestylable and current.

There are a range of Advanced level moves that are not taught in Ceroc Modern Jive Intermediate lessons. This is due to a high level of complexity, or risk of injury.
